Corrosion Hazard Analysis of Fire-fighting Pipeline in Large Storage Tank

Fire protection system is the last barrier to reduce the risk of large storage tanks. According to the characteristics of large storage tank fire protection system, this paper analyzes the corrosion hazards of fire protection pipelines. Its corrosion types mainly include chemical corrosion, electrochemical corrosion and microbial corrosion. According to the corrosion characteristics of storage tank fire protection pipelines, corresponding anti-corrosion solutions are proposed, such as strengthening anti-corrosion layer, adding corrosion inhibitor, increasing corrosion hanging sheet, fixed-point thickness measurement, etc, this paper provides some technical support for the anti-corrosion of fire-fighting pipelines in storage tanks.

As one of the important storage containers in the petrochemical industry, large storage tanks can store liquefied petroleum gas, all kinds of liquefied hydrocarbons and all kinds of gases, etc. Its volume ranges from hundreds of cubic meters to tens of thousands of cubic meters. Based on its internal storage medium, it is generally flammable, explosive or toxic, so once the tank leaks or ruptures, it is likely to cause serious consequences. At present, most storage tanks are assembled and welded on site, which requires high installation quality. As the last barrier to reduce failure hazards, the fire protection system has special regulations in its fire protection design and installation. Once a fire accident occurs in olefin medium, fire protection facilities are particularly important. The fire protection system is mainly cooling water, supplemented by dry powder fire extinguishing system [1]. At present, there are no mandatory inspection standards and regulations for large atmospheric storage tanks, and production enterprises manage them completely according to their own understanding of safety. Therefore, there are many storage tanks in extended service [2]. Long-term use without stopping for maintenance will bring great potential safety hazards to storage tanks. At the same time, the fire fighting system is more likely to be ignored because it has been in a state of preparation, and the ideological paralysis makes the maintenance of the fire fighting system pipeline not guaranteed.
